11.04.2026
PianoRoom proudly presents Two Nights at the Büchelmuseum — a compelling live album by Ben Fitzpatrick, featuring Bob Mintzer and Johan Hörlén.
Recorded across two special concert nights in Aachen, the album captures what makes jazz truly powerful: honest music, exceptional musicianship, and the unique energy of a live audience. Bringing together outstanding jazz saxophonists, the project stands as a vibrant document of artistic connection and spontaneity.
The live recording in Aachen was carried out by recording engineer Gottfried Behler, who carefully captured and preserved the full musical energy and atmosphere of these performances.
PianoRoom was pleased to contribute to the final release.
The album’s sound was crafted by Borut Belančič, PianoRoom’s sound engineer, who handled mixing and mastering, preserving the depth and authenticity of the live performance.
We also oversaw the production and design of the physical CD, with visual identity by Matej Mihelčič (Ajax), and managed the digital distribution, making the album available worldwide across all major platforms.
Two Nights at the Büchelmuseum reflects the essence of PianoRoom — connecting outstanding artists, high-quality production, and a deep respect for music as a shared live experience.
About the album (artist statement)
Honest music. An expressive, music-loving audience. Jazz musicians of the highest caliber. These rare ingredients came together during two special nights at the Büchelmuseum in Aachen, resulting in recordings from 2024 and 2025.
Ben Fitzpatrick, a member of the WDR Big Band, brought two distinct ensembles, pairing his tenor voice with two outstanding artists: Johan Hörlén and Bob Mintzer.
The first session features Hörlén, whose musical connection with Fitzpatrick creates a natural and engaging dialogue, supported by an exceptional rhythm section. The program blends original compositions with selected jazz standards, including Hörlén’s personal interpretation of Smoke Rings.
The second session welcomes the legendary Bob Mintzer, whose presence brings a masterful depth shaped by decades at the forefront of jazz. The quintet explores material ranging from the iconic Twin Tenors repertoire to original works and carefully chosen standards.
Recorded live, without studio intervention, these performances capture the authentic sound and atmosphere of the venue — a transparent and vibrant document of two remarkable nights of music.
